The North Face Cat’s Meow Sleeping Bag

The North Face Cat’s Meow sleeping bag is a great sleeping bag for the regular backpacker/camper. I have used this bag on all of my adventures in the outdoors for the past few years and it has yet to fail to live up to my expectations.

The Cat’s Meow sleeping bag, in the regular size, can fit adventurers who are up to 72″ tall and has a shoulder girth of 62″ and a hip girth of 58″. For all those of you who who have no idea what “girth” means, it is the circumference of the bag at the shoulder or hip. The smaller the girth, the lighter the bag, but unfortunately, the trade off here is your sleeping comfort. At 2 lbs. 10 oz., the Cat’s Meow isn’t the lightest bag on the market, but it is at a comfortable enough weight to take on most backpacking and camping trips. I haven’t yet found the weight to be a problem, but a lighter weight bag might want to be considered for backpacking trips longer than 5 days.

The Cat’s Meow’s best use, as noted on, is as a backpacking bag. Due to the fact that the Cat’s Meow bag uses synthetic insulation, you would still get insulation even if water was spilled on it or it happened to fall into a creek or something of the sort. Also, because it’s synthetic, the Cat’s Meow will dry a lot faster than a down sleeping bag. Depending on the kind of expeditions you undertake and how big your budget is, the Cat’s Meow’s synthetic insulation may just be the perfect sleeping option for you.

There are also a couple of cool little additions to the sleeping bag that I’ve found useful in the past. At shoulder level on the bag, there’s a zip-pocket. I certainly agree with REI in their description that it “keeps watch, glasses or other necessities within easy reach.” Another cool feature is the glow-in-the-dark zipper. I like this in particular because if you’re overheating in your bag, it’s easy to find the zipper to unzip the bag a bit.

If you’re looking for a good sleeping bag and are unsure of where to start, I would recommend taking a look at The North Face Cat’s Meow Sleeping Bag. It has been a valuable piece of equipment to me on my camping, backpacking and canoeing trips and I’m sure it will be a great addition to your equipment list.
